The Nigerian Senate today read and passed for second reading a bill to establish The Chartered Institute of Entrepreneurs which seeks to regulate the practice and activities of entrepreneurs in the country. The bill which was initially sponsored by Senator Ganiyu Solomon from Lagos West in the last Senate has now been resurrected by Senator Ibrahim Gobir from Sokoto East.
It would be recalled that in April, Senator Ibrahim Gobir defended the Senate’s decision to purchase 36 brand new luxury Toyota SUVs at the cost of N36.5 million each, even as the country battled as cash crunch and looming recession.
The proposed bill is yet another move by Nigerian lawmakers to frustrate business owners operating in the country. Nigeria ranks among one of the worst places to do business in the world due to harmful policies such as this.
