Ethiopia Needs Urgent Food Aid. (BBC)

Ethiopia has been on the international front seeking food aid. The government has appealed to the international government to help provide food aid to over 6.2 million people.  The UN world food program says the country will need $285 million in the next six months to carter for the food needs of the people.  International organization Oxfam says food aid will solve the country’s immediate food problem but is not the best for the long term. The country needs to gather funds to help the country’s agriculture sector develop so that food security can be achieved for many years to come instead of always depending on food aid.

Drought should not be a reason not to grow crops; funds got by the WFP should be channeled towards building irrigation systems and the like to advance the agriculture sector.
