Among the 150 Eritrean students who are attending graduate studies at Mekelle University, 16 graduated over the weekend. The students who were approached by members of the press thanked the Ethiopian government for the scholarships offered to them to study at Mekelle University.
They said they had been provided with all necessary care and support and thanked both lecturers and other students for their assistance in making them feel at home in the University. The graduates emphasized that the support provided by the Ethiopian government would have a valuable role in strengthening the people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The Ethiopian government has offered Eritrean refugees a total of 1,200 scholarships at various universities across the country. Ethiopia is currently hosting some 80,000 Eritreans who have fled the repression of their government.
