In this video Dr Martyn Davies answers Leon Louw’s questions on what makes Chinese SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONES (SEZs) special and why, if South Africa is serious about RADICAL ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION, it should learn from China.

Is China a special case or an exemplar of which policies coincide with which outcomes?

China has the world’s most interesting and potentially most instructive economy. China’s freest province is nearly as free as the world’s freest economy, Hong Kong, and its least free province is less free than the world’s least free indexed country, Myanmar. In other words, China has a bigger range of economic systems internally than the world has internationally. China’s growth is consistent with and predicted by its economic freedom score.
