Nigeria’s federal executive council has given approval for the construction of a power plant in Kaduna which is expected to generate 215 megawatts of electricity.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, said the project, when completed would strengthen the national grid, adding that the project was awarded in 2009 to be completed in 2012 but was abandoned. According to him, the present administration has decided to complete the project due to its importance to the economy.
He also stated that the project would include the construction of another sub-station to evacuate 40 megawatts of power from the Gurara hydro electric power plant, phase one to connect Kaduna.
Nigeria hopes to generate 30, 000 megawatts of electricity by the 2030 is on course with a large part of it coming from diversifying the sources of power generation towards renewable energy.
