The two-day annual Commonwealth Investment Forum kicks off tomorrow at Sheraton Hotel Kampala. The forum has been organised by the government of Uganda and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) through the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).
"The CBC has confirmed to us that so far about 150 private sector individuals, business associations and various country public and diplomatic representatives have confirmed participation," Gabriel Ajedra Aridru, the minister of state for Investment, told journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on Monday.
He said there would be delegates in various areas of business, including transport infrastructure development, renewable energy, financial services, and tourism, among others. Frank Ssebowa, UIA's executive director, said the conference was organised in a unique way.
"Ugandans with projects that require international partners have already submitted their interest. We have submitted them to the delegates. We hope to work out on how to prosper these projects."
Aridru said such forums will boost sectors like tourism.
"We earned about $800m [from the tourism sector], but this figure can be pushed to a billion dollars if many people got to know what we have in the country."
