Government has tasked the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC to investigate circumstances leading to expected shortfalls in oil production in the Jubilee field.
It had been estimated that the field would produce on the average, 120 thousand barrels of oil a day. The target is however yet to be achieved more than a year after production began due to challenges with some wells. Operator of the Jubilee Field, Tullow Oil now says production for the year would peak around 90 thousand barrels a day due to some technical difficulties.
Deputy Energy Minister Emmanuel Kofi Buah tells Joynews government is contemplating measures to boost production. “The Minister has directed that a comprehensive study be done and clear findings submitted to the ministry on the underlying factors of the estimated shortfall. This should provide us relevant lessons moving forward to efficiently increase production in the future" he noted.
