Lesotho's Prime Minister since 1998, Pakalitha Mosisili, has resigned.
Public Eye Daily reported from Maseru on Wednesday that the announcement was made at a news conference in the capital, Maseru, by the deputy leader of the former governing party, the Democratic Congress, Monyane Moleleki.
"Moleleki said Mosisili's resignation had since been accepted by King Letsie III, and that he would remain in office until a new Prime Minister is installed within fourteen days," the news service reported.
The news comes after the leader of the All Basotho Convention, Tom Thabane, announced on Tuesday that a number of opposition parties had combined forces to negotiate a new coalition government. The Democratic Congress won more parliamentary seats than any other party, but not enough to take power on its own.
