Mudslide victims buried on Mount Elgon. (BBC)
Heavy rains in Uganda’s Bududa’s district caused a mudslide which killed hundreds of people and some missing. The mudslide engulfed three villages near the eastern town of Bududa. The United Nations is providing tents and other supplies to people who have been made homeless by the mudslide. There are officers at the scene trying to recover dead bodies and save those who might still be alive under the mud. Heavy rains still falling is making it impossible for rescuers to carry out their work effectively.
There were burials held today for those who were killed in the mudslide. They are being buried on mountain Elgon. Individuals and in other cases whole families are being buried. Analysts say lack of tree cover triggered the slide when there was heavy down pour.
