Top UN Humanitarian Officials Visits Long Displaced Citizens. (UN News)
Internally displace people in northern Uganda today were visited by top UN humanitarian officials who saw firsthand what the people are going through. The displaced have been in the camps for three years now after fighting’s ended with the Lord Resistance Army rebels. Humanitarian, recovery and development actors need to work closely with the government of Uganda to reintegrate the people back into society. The UN under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs; John Holmes made mention of some improvements since he visited the camps back in 2007. Eighty –five percent of the camps population has returned to their home. The remaining fifteen percent in the camps are vulnerable and most of them advancing in age and some widowed. The displaced persons need urgent medical care since some of them are living with HIV.
